How It Works
Bee Wordy is a card game that challenges players to build words using common phonograms and phonics blends to earn points.
It’s simple to learn, quick to play, and incredibly effective as a teaching tool. Whether you’re in a classroom or at the kitchen table, Bee Wordy turns reading practice into an engaging, strategy-based game.
How to Play
1. Deal
Each player or team is dealt 7 or 12 cards.
Choose the number based on age or ability level.
2. Play (or Trade)
Use your cards to build as many real words as possible. Can’t make a word?
You can trade in some or all of your cards and draw new ones.
3. Write
Record the words you create in the Bee Wordy Word Bank.
Write “trade” if you swap cards - no points for that round. Add up your points at the end!
Beyond the Game: What Students Are Really Learning
While it may look like just a fun word game, Bee Wordy packs in serious learning:
Phonics and decoding through hands-on word building
Vocabulary development as students stretch to create new words
Math practice through scoring and point tracking
Pattern recognition from repeated use of blends, digraphs, and common phonograms
Older students who have outgrown repetitive phonics worksheets often light up with Bee Wordy. It feels more like a challenge and less like an assignment, but it reinforces the same essential concepts.
